Airlink is the sole carrier on the majority of the routes that it operates flights on. The airline operates as a franchisee of South African Airways. The airline has developed into South Africa’s first feeder network. It is specifically aimed at linking smaller towns, regional centres and hubs throughout South Africa. Airlink successfully completed the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) and were placed on the IATA Register on 6 February 2008. Their passenger profile represents 30% leisure and 70% business. Airlink carries over 80 000 passengers every month.

27/10/2020Privately-owned airline SA Airlink has changed its name to Airlink. This moves is as part of a strategy to distinguish itself as a totally independent airline, seperate from SAA.
“Earlier this year Airlink ended its 23-year franchise agreement with South African Airways and began operating and issuing tickets on its own ‘4Z’ code and designator.
“This has liberated Airlink and enabled it to forge commercial ties with other international airlines that carry passengers and cargo to and from destinations across Southern Africa,” the airline said in a statement.
07/10/2020Airlink will be introducing daily scheduled flights between Johannesburg and Durban from Monday the 5th of October 2020. Monday to Friday there will be three daily return flights. On Saturdays and Sundays the airline will only operate two daily return flights. Flights can be booked on the booking engine above today!
02/06/2020Airlink will launch a new limited domestic air service in June 2020. The airline will start flights on the Johannesburg-Cape Town and Johannesburg-Durban routes only. Travellers are only allowed to travel for business purposes and clients need to have the correct documentation needed for them to be allowed to board the plane. Click here for the official documents. Airlink are also planning on launching more flights on alternative routes from 15 June 2020.
23/05/2018Airlink started using a 74 seat Embraer E170 on its Johannesburg – Ndola route. The new aircraft will be replacing their Avro RJ85 aircraft which seats 83 passengers, on the route. The new aircraft will decrease capacity on the route as demand has come down.
16/05/2018Airlink has announced that they will use a new aircraft on its Cape Town – Maun, & Cape Town – Victoria Falls routes. The new aircraft will increase capacity on the route, as well as introduce business class seats. Airlink operated one of their Embraer ERJ135 aircraft on the route, which they will now be replacing with an AvroRJ regional jet. The new aircraft will increase capacity on the route by 46 seats a flight. The new plane will be brought into service at the beginning of June 2018.
20/04/2018Airlink has announced that it will operate direct flights between Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth from the 6th of May 2018.Airlink will use its newly acquired 74-seat Embraer E170 aircraft on this route.
Flights will depart for Port Elizabeth from OR Tambo International Airport at 18h10, and arrive at 19h40. The flight will be operated on every day of the week except Saturdays. The return flight departs from Port Elizabeth at 06h45, arriving at OR Tambo International in Johannesburg at 08h15. On Sundays, the flight will depart Port Elizabeth at 08h00 and arrive in Johannesburg at 09h30.
03/02/2016Airlink will once again start flying between Nosy Be in Madagascar and Johannesburg (OR Tambo) from the 20th of March 2016. The airline will only operate one return flight a week on this route. The flight will depart Johannesburg on Sundays at 09h30 and the return flight will land back in Johannesburg at 18h45.
Carry-on baggage
Each passenger may carry hand baggage suitable for placement in the overhead rack or under their seat. The maximum dimensions for one piece carry on baggage are L52cm x H40cm x W23cm. The maximum weight is 8 kg.
Check in baggage
The airline allows passengers to check in 20 kg of baggage in Economy Class and 30 kg in Business Class. Passengers flying between Johannesburg and Lusaka, Ndola, Bulawayo and Harare are allowed 30kg in economy and 40kg in business class.
For domestic flights, travellers are required to attend 1 hour and 30 minutes before departure. For International/regional flights, travellers are required to attend 2 hours before departure.
The airline operates flights with both business and economy class, and they operate flights with only economy class.
Airlink operates a all inclusive flight service. This means that all food and drink costs have been included in your airfare.
Pets are allowed to fly in the cargo hold. Passengers will need to contact the airline directly to make a booking for their pet.
