The airline boasts a range of world class aircraft. Emirates operate a fleet consisting of Airbus and Boeing airplanes. The fleet consists of Airbus A330, A340, A350 and A380, and Boeing 777 aircraft. Emirates is the world’s largest operator of the world’s biggest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380.
South Africans are once again allowed to travel on Emirates Airlines from the 29th of January 2022. Emirates has announced that they will start allowing passengers to fly to and from SA on the below routes.

23/05/2018Emirates who owns and operates the largest fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft, plans to operate one of the A380s on their Dubai – Athens route. The world’s largest commercial aircraft will be replacing the current Boeing 777-300 which is currently used on the route.

05/05/2016Emirates Airline will introduce a third daily flight between Cape Town and Dubai. The flight is set to take off for the first time on the 4th of July 2016. Emirates flight EK778 will depart Dubai at 10h50 and arrive in Cape Town at 18h30. The return flight, EK779, will depart Cape Town at 20h05 and arrive back in Dubai at 07h30.
Checked Baggage
Emirates recently introduced a new baggage policy. Economy class passengers are allowed two pieces of luggage weighing no more than 23kg each. Business class and first class passengers are allowed two pieces of luggage weighing no more than 32kg each. Infants in all classes are allowed one piece which may not weight more than 23kg.
Carry-on Baggage
Emirates carry-on baggage allowances may vary depending on your route, class of travel and membership. Duty free purchases are permitted, in reasonable quantities, for all service classes. Customers travelling with infants are permitted to bring one carry-cot or one fully collapsible stroller, as well as one extra piece of checked-in baggage.
First class and business class customers are permitted two pieces of carry-on baggage. Each item may not exceed 7 kilograms.
Economy class customers are permitted one piece of carry-on baggage that may not weigh more than 7 kilograms. All cabin baggage must fit either under the seat in front of you or in one of the overhead lockers. Baggage may not be placed behind your legs, in the aisles or in front of emergency exits.
Oversized cabin Baggage
Exemptions may be granted for oversized cabin baggage containing valuable or fragile items. Sports equipment and musical instruments are subject to the same size and weight restrictions. Items that may cause injury are not allowed in cabin baggage.
Special Items
Emirates Airlines allows passengers to travel with some non-traditional travelling items. Items include scuba diving equipment, skis and surfboards. Special baggage can be carried free of charge as part of your free checked baggage allowance. If you are traveling with an infant you are allowed an additional piece of checked baggage. Items may not exceed 10-23 kilograms, depending on the flight. You are also entitled to bring one collapsible stroller or carry-cot.
Emirates Airlines check-in desks close 45 minutes before the flight depart. Travellers have the option of checking in at the airport or checking in online.
Online check in
Checking-in online opens 24 hours before flights depart. Online check in allows you to check in from the comfort of your home, office or hotel. You can choose to print your boarding pass or check-in receipt, collect your boarding pass at the airport, or receive a mobile boarding pass on your mobile.
Emirates offer first class, business class and economy class seating options. There are a handful of loyalty and membership programs. Emirates Airlines in-flight service adds value to your travel by keeping you comfortable, well-fed, and entertained. Travellers flying with Emirates experience the highest standards of quality and personalised service.
A complete range of complimentary drinks are available on most flights. Menus and dining facilities vary depending on the flight.
Economy class meals include a number of courses. There are complimentary drinks on offer. For a small fee fliers can enjoy world-class champaign and vintage wines.
Enjoy multiple courses of regionally inspired meals on your business class flight. Business class passengers are also served a complete range of complimentary drinks including champagne, vintage wines and cocktails.
The dining options in first class are world class. There is an extensive snack and meal menu. Complimentary drinks are available including cocktails and champagne.
Emirates Airlines does allow travelling with pets. Emirates Airlines does not allow pets to travel in the cabin of the aircraft on any flight. Pets will be carried in the aircraft hold. Domesticated pets will be accepted provided they are placed in a suitable container for transportation.
The container
Each animal must be placed in a container that has enough space for the animal to turn about normally while standing. The ventilation openings must be small enough so that paws/nose cannot protrude outside the container, but big enough that they can get enough oxygen. The container must be lockable.
Guide dogs
Emirates Airlines does allows Certified Assistance Dogs for blind, deaf or disabled passengers to travel free of charge in the aircraft cabin on most flights.
Fees
Charges differ for pets depending on the size of container, weight of your pet and distance being travelled. Additional handling, local government and customs clearance charges may apply.
