Air Zimbabwe is Zimbabwe’s national airline and its main hub is at the Harare International Airport. The airline operates flights to both local and regional destinations in Southern Africa. The airline has gone through financial difficulties over the last couple of years. This has caused them to reduce their network to focus only on their profitable routes. The airline is currently in an expanding phase having relaunched flights between Harare and Lusaka recently.
Air Zimbabwe flies to a variety of different airports, both locally and regionally. In Zimbabwe, the airline conducts flights to-and-from Harare, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls and Kariba. Regionally, Air Zimbabwe fly to-and-from Johannesburg and Lusaka.
Air Zimbabwe is the national flag carrier airline of Zimbabwe. The airline is wholly owned by the Zimbabwean government. Air Zimbabwe originates from the splitting of Central African Airways in 1967. This airline is Air Zimbabwe Rhodesia and Air Rhodesia’s successor. It has been privatised since 1997 and it is Zimbabwe’s largest passenger carrier. The airline has been in operation since 1967 and its original focus was on the southern African market. Services to London Gatwick started in 1980 when Zimbabwe became a republic.
Currently Air Zimbabwe have a total of 10 aircrafts in their fleet, including 2 Airbus A320-200s, 3 Boeing 737-200s and 2 Boeing 767-200ERs. Die airline also operates a small fleet of MA60 turboprop aircraft. The airline uses their Boeing aircraft on their flights between Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Air Zimbabwe will re-introduce flights between Harare and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The airline will be operating a twice weekly flight on this route. The flights will be operated on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The first flight will take off on the 10th of May 2016.
Carry on baggage
The maximum weight of carry-on baggage is 8kgs, and each piece must not exceed dimensions of 51cmx20cmx38cm. Personal items may be carried in the cabin unconditionally. Baggage in excess of the free allowance is subject to extra charge.
Checked baggage
Economy class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage that may weigh up to 20 kg each. Business class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage that may weigh up to 25kg each.
Travellers are required to reconfirm their return booking within 72 hours of flight departure. Failure to reconfirm will result in cancellation of your reservation. Domestic flights require travellers to check in 90 minutes before take-off. Regional flights require travellers to check in 120 minutes before take-off. International flights require travellers to check in 180 minutes before take-off.
Ethiopian airlines offers a two tier class option to passengers. The airline operates both economy and business class cabins to passengers.
Air Zimbabwe operates an all inclusive service. All food and drink costs are included in your airfare.
